Hand Painted Sign – Mother’s Bistro Portland

Hand Painted Sign – Mother’s Bistro Portland

One of our favorite brunch spots in Portland asked us to help create a hand painted sign during the Covid pandemic closings. This mural is a memorial piece for George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Mother’s Bistro moved locations to a larger space a couple of years ago, but they still have ownership of the Original Mother’s building. They wanted to utilize the space for public facing artwork. The owner wanted to show her support for the Black Lives Matter Movement. They also wanted to mourn the lives taken due to the pandemic. They decided to put up new murals at both of their restaurant locations.

We paired Mother’s Bistro with a local artist known for their activism within the community and art world. Our team decided to honor the death of  George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by creating these beautiful hand painted sigs. The typography mural utilizes the medium of spray paint with a traditional graffiti lettering style and tattoo influence. The memorial artwork has crisp and clean lettering with vibrant and dramatic colors. The mural’s purpose is to bring more awareness to the social injustice issues at hand.

Since the building is currently vacant, the mural will remain in place for several months. The owner was glad to have partnered with the right artist and management team for the job!

This hand painted sign was created in part for the Together We Grow Community Art Project.
